Childhood dreams

Daily writing prompt
When you were five, what did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was five years old, just like Elmo, the days of DOS were in their hayday. Every computer guy seemed like a magical superhero, and I wanted to be one of them. So, seeing the way the future was going to go I wanted to work in fixing and developing computer systems. I did eventually fulfill that dream, but as always it isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. The truth of any job is that there are downsides, but with IT you have to basically always be learning above and beyond everyone else. Medical professionals have to learn new things, but they are given explanable studies of how different medicines work… provided they read. Calling someone in IT a computer doctor isn’t wrong, because they have to keep up on all the developmental changes of the devices they service. Knowledge about human bodies might change, but the bodies don’t. Knowledge about farming might change, but the plants and land don’t. Knoweldge about Tailoring, Jeweling, or Cobbeling might change, but the process is the same. If you are in Writing, Politics, Computers, or even Mechanics knowledge about the things might change, but so does the basis for your knowledge and certain things you’ve learned may become obsolete. In the end of the day my usual phrase is at least it’s not plumbing. More power to you if you could be a honey-dipper, but that’s the one job I never want to do.
