Last week I addressed one of America’s favorite brands of car, which we in America have many jokes about our car manufacturers. This week we are going Asian, and yes there are many negative asian and Japanese made vehicles. They aren’t all perfect, but they do have a different mentality than our American manufacturers, just like Europe has a different mentality as well. They care more about the craft of their cars, more about their customer return, and for Subaru in particular more about seemingly simple repairability. Subaru’s the closest to Russian type production for their parts, which would be… If it works it works, don’t change it. You can find parts everywhere for a Subaru as they don’t like to change out parts to anything new within a decade. Really Subaru’s are the easiest vehicles to repair if you have the Subaru specific tools. Subaru is known for their CVT transmission, which simulates normal shifting, but their 6 speed transmissions weren’t good comparatively. Subaru is known for going as long as well maintained Toyota’s, but many mechanics think they know what to do on a Subaru. Granted, a used Subaru is like an autistic child: it will blow its top over no seeming reason, burn off energy getting overwhelmed, and will get stuck in one gear. Subaru until 2022 has been known to have head gaskets blow like crazy and this will be a fix you have to do. Subaru’s have been known for burning oil and losing coolant to the point that they have severe issues, but like I said the basis of Subaru isn’t around constant reliability. I want to say that no vehicle is really easy to repair and fix, but if you want the easiest DIY reparable vehicle you might consider a Subaru. Granted if you want the newest coolest thing for vehicle performance pre-installed this is not your baby; however, if your choice is great gas mileage for non-hybrid vehicles because you don’t want to spend a small fortune in 10 years these vehicles are a great choice.
