Tuesday Cruiseday: Fix Or Repair Daily…

They may not be the best American car option, but they are the only purely American car option. This iconic car brand from the inventor of the assembly line that once held the monopoly on all car sales in America has despite a short term of production in Mexico held the hearts and minds of many mechanically inclined autophiles. If you didn’t know Chrystler who makes: Chrystler, Jeep, Dodge, and Ram along with Alfa Romeo, and Maserati are all owned by the company that makes Fiat, Stellantis. General Motors, which owns GMC, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, and Hummer is now partnership owned by Honda, which also owns Acura. Normally, that would sound like a ringing endorsement except for of all Japanese car manufacturers Honda is the least reliable. Rolls Royce is owned by BMW and Nissan is owned by Renault. Jaguar, Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery are all owned by Tata an indian motor company.

In my unpopular opinion Tesla is not a gasoline type vehicle and therefore more a robot than a car. They’re another kind of machine than what Ford Motor company produces; therefore, if you want an American owned and American made car you would have to choose Ford, Lincoln, or Mercury as they fall under the Ford umbrella. From those you have to be aware of which of the vehicles you see might be made in Mexico. Historically, vehicle production in Mexico isn’t the same in quality as vehicles made in the U.S. or Canada; however, it seems like all vehicle manufacturers produce U.S. vehicles in Mexico sometimes. Always check the sticker on your vehicles for its production location before you buy!

All of that good stuff being said about FORD there is still something that’s true about them… When have you been to a mechanic and not seen a Ford sitting on the lot? Ford has never claimed that their vehicles were repair or maintenance free, and they’re not wrong. Especially in the new age of increasing turbo charged vehicles you have to let any turbo vehicle idle for 3-5 minutes after coming to a stop. This is because the turbo is oil cooled and heats up incredibly high because it has to spin freely at over 60,000 RPM. If you shut down the oil flow or don’t change it according to the type of oil for a turbo engine you’ll be having a very expensive repair job when the part costs 5 grand alone. Learning what the real maintenance you have to do for your vehicle is part of learning, and sadly not all of that information is standard in the owners manual.

And don’t remember that Mother’s day is coming up shortly. Get yer the perfect dashboard buddy and car jewelry container for her Toyota! The Toy Yoda. Or just be a good mechanically inclined child and buy her this car cleaning gel, put some fake daisies in her car, and drive her to church. Probably in a Mercury, because it never hurts to keep your eye on the temperature.
